Fishing Report from TPWD (Jan. 8)

GOOD. Water stained; 54 degrees; 0.04 feet below pool. Striper are fair to slow. Live bait is consistently putting fish in the boat each trip. Look for them in 20-40 feet of water. Stay on the trolling motor and keep moving. The fish are constantly moving and you should be moving too. This big weather change could be what's needed to send them into a winter pattern and kick off deadstick season. Sand bass are fair. Look for them in 20-30 feet of water. Use live shad or small slabs and jigs. White and silver are good colors, but white seems to be preferred. Catfish are still fair to good. Fish up the river near Rock Creek Camp. Cut shad is producing good numbers of fish in 5-20 feet of water fished on or near the bottom. The water temp has dropped slightly to 52-58 due to the cold front and may drop even lower before the weekend. Water clarity is steady at 1-8 feet of visibility and slightly stained. Report by TJ Ranft, Ranft Guide Service. Bass are moving up with the lake level rising. Target points and drop-offs with Carolina rigs, chatterbaits, and jigs. Report by JK Outdoors Bass Fishing Guide.
