Naylor is Cruising!

It's peak season at Possum Kingdom Lake and residents working area businesses that cater to visitors are in high gear, putting in long hours to keep things going at the rapid pace. From Memorial thru Labor Day weekends local folks put in tons of overtime to support the party atmosphere that descends upon the lake like that summertime inversion cap the weather people always talk about. Once it's here it, it doesn't budge til school starts! It's invigorating - lots of new faces & cool new boats, live music everywhere with the smell of grilled meat permeating the air! But peak season is also lots of hard work!! Those who work outdoors have double, no triple, the load! I oughta know, I ran an outdoor adventure company for a few years, then a boat rental operation for seven. So when I heard that Naylor By The Water was running evening dinner cruises every couple weeks, free of charge to all aboard, I was stunned! Heck, I barely had energy to crawl in bed after a 14-hour day in the 100+ degree heat, let alone play party host into the night! But that's exactly what the good people at Naylor do! For the last couple years, twice a month on Thursdays, May thru September, the Naylor crew fires up the engines on their party barge and sets out with (lately) a full-boat crowd of 55! "It's mainly for PK-ers... we enjoy giving back to the community," says Jay Naylor. "Everyone around the lake supports our business year-round, it's important to us we say thanks. It also helps to get the word out about the party barge, our boat rentals and our apparel shop." Naylor By The Water does have fantastic lake and swimwear, if I do say so myself! The party boat launches about 6pm from The Harbor courtesy dock and cruises at a slow 30-minute lake-pace to Hells Gate. After setting anchor, the grill is switched ON... the music volume turned UP... and the water slide is OPEN! What you see by sunset is a bunch of happy people after having soaked up a few hours of relaxation without the hassle of having to captain their own boat or cooking dinner, and being able to enjoy extra cocktails on someone else's watch! Last evening's cruise was also a fund raiser for PK EMS, 100% which goes to EMS. On behalf of EMS, Jay thanks all who contributed. It's always great when businesses give back to the community, but when it's done during peak season, with activity levels busting at the seams and employees stretched beyond limit, in the 104-degree heat no less, I say HATS OFF to Naylor By The Water! And from what I witnessed last evening, ya'll need to call waaaaaay ahead for reservations for future cruises cuz I saw nothing but smiling faces all evening long!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Dec. 18)

GOOD. Water stained; 57 degrees; 0.04 feet below pool. Striped bass are fair in 20-40 feet of water with live bait. Your best bet is to just put baits in the water and slowly move around with the trolling motor until you find them. Keep in mind that we are approaching deadstick season. Sand bass are fair in 20-30 feet of water with live shad or small slabs and jigs. Live shad seems to produce a few more fish than artificial. White and silver are good colors, but white seems to be preferred. Catfish are still fair to good near Rock Creek Camp. Cut shad is producing good numbers of fish in 5-20 feet of water fished on or near the bottom. Water clarity is steady at 1-8 feet of visibility and slightly stained. Report by TJ Ranft, Ranft Guide Service. Bass are moving up with the lake level rising. Target points and drop-offs with Carolina rigs, chatterbaits, and jigs. Report by JK Outdoors Bass Fishing Guide.
